The Instigators: Celebrating 10 Years of Kettle Art

Please join us on Thursday, November 5th, 7:00 – 10:00pm for the opening reception and celebration of our support of local culture over the past ten years.

Call them what you will: rabble rousers, provocateurs, radicals, or champions. The art world has always needed them, and Dallas is no exception. In November of 2005, a small group of unrepresented artists joined forces to open Kettle’s doors, while simultaneously launching careers that have helped to illuminate the rich and vast array of talent our city has to offer. Co-founder Kirk Hopper served as art consultant and financial adviser before establishing Kirk Hopper Fine Art in 2008, also located in DeepEllum.

Conceived by artist and muralist Frank Campagna as a two-pronged concept, the gallery’s mission was to 1) offer opportunities for regional artists and patrons alike to experience art in a casual and supportive atmosphere, and 2) return the Deep Ellum neighborhood back to its artistic roots.

With this goal in mind, Kettle has proudly collaborated with organizations and arts groups across the North Texas region such as the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, American Society of Media Photographers Dallas, Art Conspiracy, Art Hash, ArtPlace America, Cykochik, D Magazine’s Big D Reads, Dallas Art Dealers Association, Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, Dallas Observer, Dallas Video Festival, Deep Ellum Arts Festival, Deep Ellum Community Association, Deep Ellum Wine Walk, END Design, Folksie/Make Shop & Studio, Instant Film Society, Lollipop Shoppe, Lone Star Wind Orchestra, Naked Girls Reading, Observe Dallas, Shag Carpet, The Sixth Floor Museum, The Urban Fabric, TunnelVisions, Wordspace Dallas, and the 45 Suicide Prevention Fund, as well as hosting performances by numerous musical acts, including the Deathray Davies, Telegraph Canyon, Unconscious Collective, Whiskey Folk Ramblers, Yells at Eels, and many more.

The Instigators are:

Kettle Art Gallery began its mission in 2005; a year that also introduced Art Conspiracy and The Lollipop Shoppe. There must have been something in the air that year as these three preeminent showcases have all evolved into forces with which to be reckoned. From the very beginning, Kettle has maintained two overall objectives: to offer local creatives a place to exhibit; and to rejuvenate the artistic roots of the Deep Ellum neighborhood. Throughout the years, Kettle has hosted over 140 exhibitions, in various media, featuring only North Texas artists. This averages out to one show every three weeks, with over $200,000.00 going directly into the pockets of local artists.

Join us during “Holiday Presence 10” as Kettle enters their tenth year of celebrating the amazing local artists who make our art scene one of the most vibrant in the country!

Holiday Presence IX Postponed

Due to the icy, slick conditions created around Dallas/Fort Worth late last week, Kettle Art Gallery felt it necessary to postpone the official opening of Holiday Presence IX.

The staff felt that it was better for everyone to arrive safely to celebrate the holiday, than risk the potential of accident & injury trying to make it out for the show.

The wait will be worth it as your favorite local artists will be on hand Thursday night to welcome one-and-all & officially kick-off Holiday Presence IX. So, join us Thursday night for what promises to be a jolly fun time for all!

Till then, stay safe and warm!

That 60's Show

Kettle Art proudly presents ‘That 60’s Show’ a 1960’s flashback 50 years later. Opening Thursday 10 / 24/ 13, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM in the front gallery at Kettle Art 2650-B Main. Deep Ellum, through Saturday 11 /29.

The 1960’s were the decade that seemed to change everything. From the approval of birth control by the FDA in 1960 to Neil Armstrong landing on the Moon in 1969. From the debut of Pop Art & the British Invasion to numerous assassinations of our civic leaders. American culture was in full swing, for better or worse, and only now can be seen in proper retrospect.

Join us for this unique visual interpretation of the era that changed it all featuring works by Jonothan Kimbrell, Brad Albright, Justin Clumpner, Miguel Aguilar, Dan Colcer, Patricia Rodriguez, George Wallace, Guy Reynolds, Brian A Crawford, Kurt Griesbach, Aralyn McGregor, Ange Fitzgerald, Nick Glenn, Ryan Theis and more… Video works will be provided by Robert Rockula Knott.
